I would love to hear about recommendations for Perth for hair, nails, etc.
I can recommend Jazz Hair Studio in Perth for simple cuts and mens. They are really reasonably priced. I can't really comment on their services for colour or complicated cuts, but when I lived in Perth I had a really simple hairstyle and they did a good job. Lovely ladies too. It's in the Wesley Centre in the city (cnr William and Hay)

Anyone know of a good place to get your hair done out in the western part of Sydney. I hate to go all the way to the city for a hair cut. Fortunately I went back to my natural color before I came out here to save money on not having to dye, but the last place I went (Lattouf Hair Spa) was terrible. My BF & I both went and they basically did not listen to us at all as to what we wanted done and did what they want. I thought it would be nice since it was an Aveda salon and, but I was not impressed.

OK I was just corrected by my BF. We are in North Western Sydney! So if you have any recommendations for there it would be great :)

I wondered about that salon since it sold Aveda...thanks for the heads up I won't be trying them anytime soon! Sorry can't really help you there since I go to one way out in Kenthurst.

I finally found a place I like out here in the Norwest part of Sydney. :) Hair Body & Soul in Rouse Hill. Everyone there was so friendly. I had a great hair cut and they were very helpful in showing me how to style it on my own at home. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a salon in the area.

I have an appt for a mani / pedi at French Pink in the CBD (Melbourne) Wednesday. They've gotten good reviews from what I've read online, but the price kills me. I loved living in Chicago (and other US cities) where I could get a good mani/pedi for $40. This place is $80! The bright side is that only a few more months in sandals and then I can go back to once a month.

I'll keep the Melbourne girls posted after my appt.

BTW - anyone have advice for tipping on these services? I'm still not clear on when tips are expected...

I should have known. After a few drinks the night before Australia day I asked the bartender how much he made per hour. He told me about $22. I choked on my $12 beer.

Thanks for the advice. I suppose $80 isn't as bad when a $15 tip isn't expected.

I think I already posted it, but I go to a great little place in South Melbourne, mani/pedi for $50. They do an awesome job and are always happy to take walk ins. But yea you'll see prices all over the shop here...

I have an appt this Fri for a $50 mani + pedi at a Professionail Salon that Dev posted about back in Sept. I found a location close to where I live. I'm looking forward to it. Next on my list is a facial and maybe a massage-I could use a "tune up" ;)

Best pedicure I've had in Melbourne was at the Aveda spa in Spring Street - pricey, but so worth it.
I had a bad hair experience at Unico after having a good experience there, which was very disappointing. Now I get my hair cut at a place where I can bring my 8 1/2 month old daughter and not worry because they have a playpen and a change room, coffee and conversation. The girl there does a good job - not the best I've ever had in my life, but pretty good for what I need right now.
I still miss Lola, who used to cut my hair in Brooklyn. If I could fly her out, I would!

Perth (Subiaco) recommendations: :goodonya:

Professionail (on Rokeby) was a really good recommendation. (I also saw another Professionail location in Perth city, but can't remember the name of the street.) :headscratch:
I had the $50 mani/pedi and it was complete with hand and foot massages as well as the whirlpool bath for feet. They did a really nice job- I will go back to them.

Went for a facial at a salon called Ailyn's at Rokeby and Barker Rd. They have all kinds of specials-just ask what's available and they'll have quite a few to choose from. I chose the special that included a facial, eye brow wax and lash tint for about $70 and it took about an hour. Nice ladies there. They use Murad products. Not sure if you can buy these products anywhere else in town; they are pricey at the shop (and about half the price in the US, but I guess that's not relevant). :)

i rarely get my hair cut, and never pay anyone else to colour it... however, i decided its about time someone else struggled with my hair...

i recommend "crosscuts" at elizabeth town centre, outer northern 'burbs of adelaide. i've been there twice and both times have walked out feeling good. the girl i had both times (belinda) is out on maternity leave until just before christmas, but she recommended natasha. i've seen natasha work, and i will be going to her when my hair next needs some colouring in...

I went to Embody in Richmond for my first Aussie haircut. Jade cut my hair and I'm really happy with it. It's healthy and easy to style. It had been a while since my last cut and I didn't leave her anything pleasant to work with! I was watching Gorgia with her clients there as well and there were some great cuts. It's just off Swan Street near the post office.

Melbourne Ladies & Gents:

I went to Entourage Salon on Blackburn Road in Blackburn (about 600m from the train station) and was very happy with the experience. That's probably the best colour job I've ever had on my hair. I had dyed it brown but wanted to get back to something closer to my natural. Instead of bleaching my entire head, the stylist did a full head of foils so not all of my hair would get all dry and icky. I was skeptical of how this would look, but it actually looks great! It was only about $125 for the full head of foils and a cut.
