And for us people who love Vegemite, you can certainly get it in the US.

that milo (if made in china) is disgusting.

i missed the different biscuit (cookie) varieties that we have here, and chicken chips and twisties. hmmm, aussie sausages, aussie lamb (could get kiwi lamb in alaska, but its got a different flavour), all the different lollies (candy), decent pizza, decent chocolate, cordial (even though we got used to kool aid).

daughter just said she missed the first season of aussie idol...

and now for things from america we miss...

good mexican food, tortilla chips, kool aid, double stuffed & chocolate cream oreos, chex mix, clam chowder, hamburger/tuna helper, chili's (the restaurant), snow snow and more snow, sierra mist, iced tea, jello puddings, reeces peanut butter cups, costco, american sausages, former father-in-laws jambalaya, 24 hour supermarkets... i'm sure there's more that we'll think of...

Things from America that I miss when I'm in Australia: stick deodorant, cheap jeans, cheap shoes, Reeses Pieces, snow, central heating.

And I agree with Crapola about the Milo here. It just isn't worth buying.

For any Reeses lovers in the Melbourne area - there is a little store in Elwood that sells every Reeses product I've ever seen. They have them just in front of the counter: PB cups, pieces, white choc... There's about 10 different types. I thought of you all when I saw them!

This one is a question from MUO's Boomerang Lounge , but thought y'all (!) might be better at answering this.....(don't know if I am in the right forum though)

What is something that you would have brought with you to Oz that you did not?
Out of curiosity, what sorts of things do the Aussie's miss that they cannot find in America?? Besides vegemite and timtams...
besides my family of course, a few things come to mind, "sars", magnum ice blocks, mars bars, top deck chocolate, pavlova, lamingtons, mince pies, shortbread, the breads, the bacon sold there, custard from the milk aisle, some fruits, the different varieties of fish, the surf, the smell, covered car parks and driving out of the car park in the correct direction to get where I am going.

of course I have found ways to substitute for most of the 'treats' but there is just no way to bottle the smells and sounds

I think it's funny that Americans move to Australia and search for decent pizza while Australians move to America and do the same!
I never saw so much ham on a pizza in my entire life before I moved to Melbourne and my step kids love it - barely any sauce, barely any cheese and an inch of ham! Blech!
Of course, being from NYC all of my pizza memories from the states reside there and you really have to to be lost and misguided to find bad pizza in NYC..........

I would learn to be comfortable using yeast - I miss having raw pizza dough (which I bought, rather than making my own) to use for calzones and stuff.

I also miss good sandwich bread! Though my boy chucks his bread in the fridge; maybe that's why it tastes off.

Ahahaha!!! I think I had that pizza last weekend! I ordered the 'yank' pizza and there was SOOOO much ham on it and no sauce. It was good cold and not so bad hot after I put some sauce on it to make it not quite so dry...

I decided today (now that I'm working and wearing work clothes) that I wish I had packed Dryell. Do they have something like that here? For at home 'dry cleaning'?

In the end you just get used to the pricing. You innately know that $12/kg for mushrooms is expensive and $8/kg is cheap (in my area). Of course if you go to a market you can get it even cheaper, but my point is just that I found it most helpful to get a general feel for what the price normally looks like and then you can make your purchasing decisions on that.

Last week Woolies were doing a sale on mushrooms. Such a good sale, only $14/kg. Uh, no thanks. This week they're back down to $11/kg and they're not on sale. Whatever.
Had to laugh at those prices- I live blocks from Vic market and paid $2 for a kilo of mushrooms! It took us a whole week to eat that many mushrooms!

Yup, when I go to Paddy's I get mushrooms for around $3-4 per kilo. Hence why we don't usually buy our produce at the supermarket.

I miss cheap and reasonably priced everything.

Except Greek Yogurt, a small tub of that stuff costs 6.00$ in the US and a nice big one about the same here.

Thank you to Australia's substantial Greek population :)

Oh, god. The food. And American Target. The ability to find what you want, when you want, without having to go to 4 or 5 different places and ending up settling for something that's close.
We brought everything we could. I wish we could have brought the 15 boxes still sitting at my Mom's house waiting to be shipped.
