Australia used to represent happiness, opportunity and adventure to me. It used to be my future. Ever since Nick and I separated, it now represents the past and the future that should have been. Now I find myself without dreams, ambition, or hope for something more than what I have right now. Not really frustration as much as emo, but there you have it.

Whoa, Dev! So, what's stopping you from heading to Oregon? I know it was a hard decision to come back here, after your visit. Please don't set unrealistic goals for yourself, as in: "I'll stick it out here a year," if you have no more dreams, ambitions, or hope further than where you're at! You are a much more capable person that that, who has proven that she can do what she sets her mind to accomplish. You deserve much better, and YOU CAN DO IT! I think you'd THRIVE back in the US as the NEW YOU! Lis |

Ehh...mostly money at this stage. And the fact that I *know* that if I don't give my life here a full go, I'll regret it forever. So here I stay. But on the silver linings side, I have an absolutely awesomely supportive housemate. So I'm not alone.

our US insurance had world coverage but you could only go to certain dr's or hospitals and then i think you had to pay up front and submit the bill to the insurance for reimbursment. we never had to use it before getting medicare luckily. i would call your insurance company and find out. you could also look into purchasing travel insurance. i think you can get it through medibank fairly cheap. i was told around $90 for a year. |

So I applied to a sandwich/coffee bar yesterday, and had an interview today. I got lots of advice last night on what to wear, and spent a while doing my makeup and nails today. I get there and am immediately told I don't have sandwich bar experience, so no thanks. Waste. Of. Time. I did get a free latte out of it. And it tasted burnt. |

My turn! I am TIRED of filing out tax forms for the US. If I HAVE to file, why can't I just fill in 2555-EZ and send that off? Seriously, it's SUCH a waste of time typing in zeros and sending it off! RIDICULOUS. The whole stupid process gives me the shits. Filing taxes for TWO countries STUPID. It's hard to easily KNOW how much you've earned because of the different financial years, THEN to convert it to US$ ARGH. STUPID STUPID STUPID. /rant off |

Yeah, but when they have US stimuluses, we get them. So far I haven't paid any US tax since I've been here, and they've paid me $300 for my time filing them. Fair trade I reckon. |

<moderator mode> I've removed the "100% evil" tangent. Yes, I understand the sentiment... I really do... but it's been a very long-standing rule here on YDU that posts and topics created solely to rant about a group of people (whether it be men, women, Americans, Aussies, Republicans, liberals, you name it) are prohibited and will be removed on sight. These posts never add anything positive to the forum, and instead poison it with negativity, snark, and flamewars. If anyone has any comments about that, feel free to e-mail me or fill up my PM box. </moderator mode> Carry on! |

I hate Klingons! They scare me because their heads look like walnuts! (Klingons are those thingies from Star Trek, right?) On a more serious note... Dev... I know you're going through an extremely tough time right now. But from what I know of you (which isn't THAT much, admittedly), you have come across to me as a survivor. You're creative and smart, and have so much going for you. The future that "should have been" is merely a path that wasn't meant for you. Something else is waiting for you, and you're going to go after it with all your heart. It's going to be better than what the so-called "should have been" future would have been. *hugs* |

Klingon-centric episodes are always so BORING! But Ferengi episodes are just badly written. Dev, I agree with choco - you sound like a survivor. So girl, sing some Gloria Gaynor - loud and proud. |

Dev, I have a friend here named Zoe who went through something similar about a decade ago. She decided to stick it out here and it was truly the right decision for her - she got here mojo back, found her dream job at the Victorian State Library and she has a great partner. Follow your instincts...... I've always said that life is a like a scavenger hunt - one clue leads you to the next clue and that's the point of this crazy journey.............. |

Thanks girls. That really means a lot to me, and I definitely needed that. Admittedly going through a rough patch at present. Nick has just moved to Perth, which closes off that chapter of my life for good now. To add insult to injury, I've had someone I really care about lead me on and mess with my head. That situation came to a head last night, hence the slight tangent. (Sorry Tors.) *sigh* I know it'll all work out how it's supposed to in the end, but it doesn't seem like it sometimes. Thanks again. |

Dev, you ARE a survivor...we all are... we all have a common bond here, in that we've moved to a distant land and have had our various struggles. But what you need to realize is that more times than not, your frustrations make you sound very condescending and rude. it tends to rub ALOT of people the wrong way and I'm not sure you even realize that. We should all be respected & treated as equals. Of course, I can't speak for everyone reading this but we are all here to listen and help, but you simply need to be careful of what you are saying and HOW you are saying it. You like to proclaim yourself as the "forum b"... is that REALLY what you want to be known as... a martyr? Listen, if you're really struggling, why don't you try getting some counselling? It's not a sign of weakness, it can actually be very helpful. and set a positive course for a new direction in your life. And now here's a toast to optimism ![]() Edited by suzn, May 7 2010, 10:06:48 PM.

suzn: I definitely understand what you're saying. And I do appreciate your honestly. It's tough to be that honest with someone, and I really appreciate and respect your doing so. But honestly...I don't understand how I'm being any different than quite a few people on here. Sure, I can't always make my smart-alec or snide remarks humorous like others do, but I'm saying the same exact things. I don't understand, for the life of me, why I always seem to be treated like I'm the devil for being honest when others are adored and applauded for the same thing. I don't like being the forum bitch, but that's how a lot of people on here make me feel. It feels like I'm expected to be supportive and accepting of everyone for who they are (which I am, even if I haven't been able to show you guys that), but not many people on here do the same for me. I'm sorry if that sounds condescending or rude, but that's how I feel. That's why I've stopped coming on here much anymore. I used to love this place but it seems like every single time I'm active on here, something I say with absolutely no negative intentions rubs someone the wrong way and I get attacked for it...and I don't understand why. Anyway, I think I might just leave it now. Thank you to those that have offered me support through this. I appreciate it more than I can express. You are all lovely people and I hope that you are happy in your respective lives. If you ever want or need a chat, feel free to drop me a line. If you're not on my FB, I'm sure you can find out how to contact me from the people that are. |
