It's definitely important to have a frustration thread, but I feel like making a "silver linings" thread for all of the good, positive things that have happened for people lately. So here we go!--------------------- After feeling absolutely dreadful about the way Nick treated me yesterday, my housemate had a nice long talk with me about things and took me out to dinner with his mum. She's a gorgeous little Asian lady and we had a lovely time. Today, my housemate and I went out to the Yarra Valley with another friend of his (who is now, consequently, a fun new friend of mine) and had a wonderful day! I'm now feeling all warm and fuzzy.

Okay, I'll keep playing then. ![]() ------------- I got a new job!!! It's a full-time position with a company that sells coffee machines and products. It's definitely a step up from the kinds of positions I've had in the past, and there's room for advancement with the company should I choose to stay in Melbourne after this year and accept the bump. And it's double what I'm making right now (though, I am only working three days per week at present), which will definitely help me out a lot! This is a Godsend because I've really been struggling on the financial front. Man...more responsibility and career advancement, free gourmet coffee every day. What a terrible work environment!

wOOOOOOOOOOt Congrats on the new job that is awesome news...and at a coffee company sweet! I'll play. I had a horrible day at the school of Education's office (thread coming later) but one great thing: I got my pair of sunglasses and MP3 player I had accidently left at the office back in November! |

Yeah, I'll play. Today is the first day of Autumn. I am always amazed at how, despite the lack of correlation to the equinoxes, just how spot on the commencement dates of the seasons are here. I have a bit of a foot wear fetish, and I was delighted to see all the young girls decked out in their new winter boots today. The chilly weather has made my cat very affecionate, and it felt great to go out for a lovely laksa soup for lunch. Simple little lovelies. |

Yay, I love this thread! Especially lately, when I am feeling particularly frustrated with people that complain about everything when we have so much to be grateful for. Audra, I too loved the crisp weather today! Although I'll miss the summer sun and beach days, I am excited to pull out my warm, fuzzy (albeit ugly as hell) Uggs! And my favorite blanket to cuddle up with on the couch Dev, big congrats on the job, sounds awesome!! Best of luck. And great news on finding long lost property Samantha!

Oooo... I saw the boots too!! And Dev, that's awesome about the new friends and the new job. I totally get how good it feels to get rid of some financia stress. My blurb: I had to work on Saturday at 7am (construction site to supervise) and didn't tie down a load of timber on my roof racks properly, which almost slid off and hit my new truck and the car in front of me in the middle of the CBD at midday (there were a LOT of horns involved and I will NEVER mis-tie a load again). Anyhow - the silver lining was coming home to the biggest bouquet of lillies I've ever seen and a VERY clean flat, courtesy of my amazing boyfriend. |

The new Celtic Woman CD is wonderful. ![]() And I have the sweetest partner, who brought me coffee in bed upon request this morning when I woke up at 9 am (I usually wake up, then fall asleep again until 11 or 12). |

I'm with Natasha, I love this thread! I find it refreshing to read about happy things i haven't had much to complain about since I moved to Oz (other than my lazy housemate, but that could happen in any country!) In the last 6 months I've been promoted to a position I love at work, bought a home (yikes!), been home to see my family twice, have the most beautiful group of girlfriends here in Melbourne who keep me sane, actually stuck to a diet and excercise plan and have lost 4kg so far, and in the final stages of my permanent residency. Oh silver lining...they opened a Taco Bill down the street...have been there 3 times already...soooo not good for the diet but I'm loving it! |

Oooooh Silver Linings. We are home from our incredibly awesome holiday today (wistful sigh), but I do not have to return to work until next Tuesday! And? Because Monday is Canberra Day it's a short week as well! It is downright madness to return to a full week after being off for 2 weeks!

This IS a silver lining. I just have to tell the story first. So the general concensus is that I got asked out today and was too preoccupied (and clearly stupid) to notice. I was doing about a gazillion things at work today. I was talking to a member about a query she had, and I told her that I needed to contact another company to find out the answer for her. I said that I would call her back and hung up the phone. Then for whatever reason, I called her back right away without realising it. When she answered, I was all, "Oh...man. I'm sorry. I meant to call _________ but called you by accident!" She just laughed and we parted ways. Well, our IT guy (who works off-site but comes in to deal with issues for us) was sitting at my co-worker's desk and starts giggling at my mistake. The following conversation ensued: HIM - Long day, eh? ME - Man...is there such thing as Tuesday-itis? HIM - *thinking a moment* Well...could be. But tonight is Tight-Arse Tuesday at the movies if you want to go. Something to look forward to. ME - *looking at him blankly for a moment, trying to figure out what that has to do with Tuesday-itis* Yeah...with my copious amounts of free money lying around! *smiles at him* HIM - *laughing* Well that answers that then! Then I mention that there are a few movies I'd like to see lately, which never happens. He asked me which ones and I tell him The Blind Side, Precious and Valentine's Day. He says, "Oh...I have free tickets to that one!" to which I reply, "Lucky!" And before he could say something else, the phone rings again and I have to answer it. Weeeeeeeell sh*t.BUT, the silver lining is that I'm obviously worth dating to someone!

Stopped by the post office today to finally mail my wedding invitations! The older male clerk was so kind--he took my invites (very delicately) and says, "I'm going to stamp, process, & sort these myself so they don't get hurt in our sorting machine". Even though they can get "hurt" later on in the mailing process, I thought that was so sweet of him! I certainly wasn't expecting it and it made me smile. And I really needed that smile because I spent the entire night addressing wedding invitation envelopes--incorrectly. Seriously, who doesn't know the return address (their OWN address)?!! So that was fun redoing all off those envelopes! And oddly enough, 2 minutes after I got home from the post office, the postman came to my door to deliver my shoes and veil I ordered. YES, he came to my door! Like a few others on this site, I usually get the standard "sorry we missed you" even though I am at home watching soaps all day. That made my day too I <3 Australia Post--at least for the moment.AND I got my much higher than expected tax return today!

OMG...I have the mother of all silver linings! I just measured my bust, waist and hips for the first time in a few months, and I'm down approximately 10" in total! Holy crap! Something agrees with me.

Awesome thread. I like to be more positive about life, since that can be more challenging than giving in to the easily found negatives and I like a good challenge. My silver lining was going to the dentist to get a crown repaired and finding out they need to replace the whole thing. Seriously, that turned out to be great. First, they took out the old one and installed a temp without anaesthetic, and I didn't freak out. I've had panic attacks at the dentist, so that's a big step for me. Second, their old lab turned out to have been supplying them with bad work to cut costs, so my dentist is replacing the crown for free. Sweet. Third, since my dentist is right next to the local library branch, I got to meet my wife at the coffee shop in the library and spend the morning working with her away from the house. And that's just the morning - the sun is shining and my dogs are about to get a nice walk. Edited by dtwilcox, Mar 4 2010, 05:05:53 AM.
