I just called on Friday the 26th to ask about the status of my background check and the woman informed me there is a 13 week backlog...yikes! I can't/don't want to wait that long to see my fiance again!

That is so frustrating.
I will file my application on March 15 (as soon as my plane is in the air). We booked our return flight home for 6 weeks later. With a delay on the FBI check it looks like I'll have to stay behind and he'll have to come home without me. :banghead:

Why not just request it now with your australian address? Then when it's done you can send it where it needs to go.

I requested it at the early part of Feb. We're leaving on March 15, my year's visitor visa exires on March 18. I have to leave before the results gets here from the FBI if they're taking that long. I'll have my neighbor check the mail and take it to the immigration agent. I wish the agent would have had me request it straight off. We both have return tickets on April 23, however mine is changable. Oh GAWD I hate the idea of living wiht my son until it comes through- lol.

Oh Vicki, I'm sorry! I'm in a similar boat (waiting anyhow) as my husband was offered a job in Melbourne and they want him to start at the end of April. I am not seeing how this is even remotely possible if you have to have a FBI background check and they are taking 13 weeks. Does anyone here work for the FBI;)

The temporary visas generally don't require FBI checks. So unless they're trying to get you permanent residency right out of the gate (which would surprise me) you don't have to worry about it. :)

I forget the date that I actually got my Fingerprint Check back, but it has been a few weeks now....all up I'd say the turn around time on it was about 8-9 weeks, so it was long, but not as long as the 13 weeks they first quoted me. Sending off the rest of the paperwork my Case Officer asked for tomorrow and fingers crossed I'll have my visa granted in no time now! :woohoo:

The fingerprints I sent were accepted on April 15. I'm hoping it won't take 13 weeks.
Applying for - Partner Visa: Offshore Temporary and Permanent (Subclasses 309 and 100) / Sent May 15th - received at Embassy on May 17th. Received email from NP (my C?O) on May 26. Waiting :) . Received Lable free grant letter Sept 17 and arrived in Australia October 19 as a temporary resident. Awaiting my permanent residency now.

I've got my fingers crossed for you, Karlig that they are processing them more quickly now.

So just an update on my stuff....sent the last of my paperwork off at the beginning of this week.
It arrived Wednesday April 28th to Washington.
April 29 My C.O. emailed me to let me know she had received the last of the paperwork and we needed to do a phone interview.
April 30 I emailed her this morning to let her know I was free to do one now, she called, we talked for 11 minutes, and she advised me that she was going to process my paperwork today and that my visa is granted!!

I started the process around February 8th and got my visa granted April 30...so all up 81 days to get my visa granted and that was only because the finger prints and stuff from my Fiance took so long to get here. The process was long, but not 6 months long. I'm so excited! :yaay:
