My expat friends in the UK say that baking soda and baking powder there are very different.
If you have trouble finding Baking Powder its 1 part baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) 2 parts Cream of Tartar, and 1 part cornstarch. if you can find those you are good to go. I know I use cream of tartar in a recipe I have for making my own playdough (wish I could find the recipe, I think its in a box)
Mind you finding one thing would be easier than finding three, but you may already have those three in your cupboard.
