So I'm thinking of bringing some American candies for my soon to be 23 nieces & nephews!
I'm pretty familiar w/some of the lollies in Oz, but can't remember which US ones they sell.
Would love to know which US candies are rare to buy/get. Thanks for the info :)

My kids in my jr. high youth group are bonkers over Hershey's chocolate plus its on sale in the US because its summer - think s'mores - so 6 bars are like $2.50!

Tootsie Rolls - they sell them at Costco in Melbourne, but every Aussie I've ever given one to has really liked them, (a generality, I know, but it bodes well for your purposes).

Plenty of places here in Melbourne sell American candy. I have even seen a Charlston Chew for sale here somewhere. Strangely enough Poptarts are included in many American candy displays here and I wonder if Aussies know that most Americans consider them breakfast and not candy. Poptarts are about A$10 a box here so this might be a nice treat to bring and toast for an American breakfast. Hopefully they can make it past quarentine but I am not sure about this. Tootsie Pops might also be good to bring. I don't think I've seen these here yet. I can remember back in the 70's they had a funny cartoon ad with an owl and a turtle counting how many licks it takes to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop without biting the candy.

When I walk down the candy aisle at Coles or Woolies I see lots of gummies, black licorice, and cadbury chocolate. They seem to be missing starburst, skittles, sour fruit (like sour patch), Reese's, Riesen, tootsie rolls, york peppermint patties and more I'm sure. I don't know if Aussie's might like these, but they don't seem common here.

I would really love some Dove or See's chocolates right now!

I definitely consider pop tarts candy and can't imagine spending $10 per box. My poor children didn't get them in the US and certainly aren't getting them here  Not while I have a bit on control anyhow.

In some stores, the bagged lollies are kept in a separate section from the chocolates. You might want to check to see if there's another lolly section. But I can say that they definitely stock Starburst and Skittles in my local Coles & Woolies. :) I've also seen flavour variants: tropical Skittles, Starburst

If you're looking for "sour" type lollies, check the Natural Confectionery Company line - they've got sour worms, sour fruit, etc. Also in the section with the bagged lollies.

Mint Patties are a pretty good substitute for York Peppermint Patties, and usually located in the section with the chocolate bars.
