awesome on the visa being approved. I had similar turn around time for my FBI checks as well, about 6-7 weeks, which is a lot better than the 13 weeks they told me. I had to get record checks from the RCMP (canada) as well and they said 120 days and i got them in 30. So far its been really quick. I got Certified Checks for mine as well, you can track those with your bank, which I did religiously. But I used the wait time to save up the cash for my application, and then used an amex card for the skymiles and paid it off interest free, i figure all the app fees should at least get me a good portion of miles to use towards my flight back to OZ.

you guys are lucky. I sent mine in on June 16th. I made the mistake of not getting a delivery confirmation on them though. I have no idea of even knowing if they are there. I have called the office & they did not have them logged yet, that was last week. I am going to ring them again tomorrow and see whats up. My first set was rejected, I received that back on the 2nd of August. (I had a feeling that set would get rejected so I sent a second set 2 weeks later). I just hope the USPS has not lost my second set!!!!!!!!!! I am so nervous. That is the last bit of info I need to get my visa done!

I called them last week again, they still did not have in their system. Only the first one I sent (the rejected one) is coming up. I was told again it could still be a few weeks. I have been checking my credit card online everyday to see if it has been charged (as that was how I found out the first one was done as I noticed the charge first), nothing there either. I plan on going and getting my fingerprints done again this week and sending off a third set. I am going to try a different police station this time around maybe they can get it right. I just can't believe the luck I am having with this!

Is there a police station that does them digitally, or is it all ink? I had mine done digitally, and the lady was a pro. I hope it works out for you soon. I know it's frustrating waiting and not knowing, hang in there!

really I was under the impression that the FBI prints had to be done in ink. When I had the second set done when I was back home in California in June they did my state one's electronically, but the FBI ones in ink as they said the FBI only takes them in ink. You think they would get with the modern times!

I had the digitized fingerprints, printed out, and I sent them those, it wasn't real ink, and they took mine just fine.

I got my fingerprints taken for my FBI clearance today, and will be mailing them next week. I'm not submitting my residency application until December/January. Y'all are making me paranoid.

Hehehe, I get butterflies too, because I think, ok this is it! Fortunately(or maybe unfortunately) I don't hear much from my CO, everyday I think--is today going to be the day?!?
Sunshine, don't be paranoid, it's just part of the process, goodonya for getting it done now, instead of waiting. They say 13 weeks to get records back from the FBI, but if you look through the forums and I can tell you my own personal experience it was much, much quicker (6-7 Weeks)
I found out that delta doesn't really want to work with me to get to Melbourne, so I am thinking I might just use my skymiles and go to europe, the fares from europe are about half the price as from the US, right now, might as well have some fun and visit some countries on the way.

EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER!!!!!!! I usually love rollercoaster rides, but this one sucks!

What's up w/Delta? Are they charging an arm & a leg for fares?
If you were to leave from EU, how long of a flight would it be? Good idea w/skymiles - that sounds like fun!

with delta, I would need 90,000 miles to get to Sydney, but I am trying to get to Melbourne, and they don't fly direct to Melbourne so it would have to be one of their "affiliates" which means I might could use my skymiles, but I have to call and make the reservations, and they charge you a fee for booking on the phone.
There is also the possibility of getting $100 off your flight for every 10,000 miles you have, and Delta claims there are no blackout dates etc etc. but the only fares you can pay with your miles like that are the top first class business flights that cost over $5000, and really I can get a coach fare for about $1400 through delta right now, if that's how I wanted to go. Since I have never flown anything fancier than coach, I don't know what I am missing.
But I can easily use my skymiles--and I have enough of them for a trip to Europe, I checked a couple of airports and from London or Paris its about $850us to Melbourne, of course I'm still looking into the different airlines and such, but a nice side trip to Europe might be nice, the flight will be long, but I don't have a job in Melbourne that I am going to, so really I have more time than money.

Silly quick question, but I might as well ask here: if I'm mailing in my FBI request from overseas, should I enclose a SASE (and how would I do that)?

I didn't need an SASE for my FBI check a couple of years ago. They sent it back to me in Australia, no worries. :)
