I have been intrigued by all the things people miss, since I am not there yet I am not missing them, but I did go down the laundry isle and sniff boxes of bounce. I also ate some reese's pieces, and bought some good fresh salsa. Trying to get it all in. I think I will miss having a dryer as well, I am such a lazy procrastinator sometimes. |

Hmm, so there just arent any dryers at all, huh? I mean, I see the lines in the yards on all of the rental house pics, but I guess I was thinking (hoping) that line drying was just an option for sunny days. That will be a learning curve for me, for sure! |

I miss squirrels too! I don't "miss" my dryer as much as I miss the chance of being a flake when it comes to my laundry. My first thought when I see the sun in the morning is to run down and put a load of laundry in especially because my washer is so small! |

We have a dryer. You just need to make sure there are hookups for them when looking for an apartment. I find the washer and dryers are smaller here though, which for me, means doing laundry (what I feel is) everyday.... |

Clothes dryers do exist here, and it's not uncommon for people to own one. However, they tend to be much smaller than the ones in the States, and a bit more expensive to run. My MIL only uses hers when it's raining. We don't own a dryer and have gotten used to hanging everything up. Even in the Wet season, we put everything on the mobile racks in the bedroom. ![]() (edit... oops, didn't see Kim's post before mine!) Edited by TerritorianTori, Aug 24 2010, 03:55:21 PM.

You all miss squirrels? Really? I don't miss squirrels at all. I always had this fear that a rabid squirrel would come and bite me or something crazy. I don't miss squirrels, and I don't miss rabies. I do miss airshows, though. On Australia Day, a Qantas A380 flew overhead. Big whoop. At the end of City to Surf, there were four small prop planes flying in formation...it just doesn't make the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I miss singing the Star Spangled Banner at a sporting event in the States and having sonic boom fireworks go off during the "bombs bursting in air" line. I miss feeling the sound of an F18 permeate down into my chest once we finish the "home of the brave" line. I miss the Harrier just floating over the Missouri River in the shadow of the Gateway Arch, slowly backing up and then rocketing forward and up...so loud that you can barely hear yourself think. I'm pretty much a pacifist, and don't give the military near the support that they deserve - regardless of the West's foreign policy...so I'm totally hypocritical when it comes to these displays of military muscle. I can't help it, though. It does make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I just love it. I miss airshows...ones with jets. |

This will be my first Halloween here, so I have a feeling I will miss the things that I associate with Halloween and Fall; pumpkin picking and carving it; apple picking; Fall Festivals; jumping into the leaves (but not raking them). Were there places to go and do those things here this passed Autumn? Maybe I missed it, but I'm sure I wasn't thinking about pumpkins in May. I just can't imagine decorating for Halloween with Tulips... |

I carve a pumpking here every year! I seek a good 'ol unedible orange one out... my Safeway carries them... they're pricey, but it's a MUST! Now that we have Kennedy it'll be even more of a must. I saw a few trick-or-treaters last year. Going back a few years my hubby and I jumped into our car with a bowl of candy to seek them out... in retrospect... probably not a good idea.

Missy-that's hilarious about seeking out trick or treaters! And Beck, you won't have to miss any of that if you move to Melbourne. Just go to Costco. And I know a place in Elwood that sells more Reece's products than I knew existed (and pop tarts). Pretty sure you can find them at Southland too (it's a mall even though a box of Pop Tarts there is $9.99). And USA Foods is around the corner. I get homesick for my friends and family here, but not so much the material things. I, however, DO miss my girlfriends. I work so much I don't have time to make friends even if I did know where to meet some. Good thing my OH is so awesome, eh? :-) |

i miss drive-thru banking!! going into a bank with a 2yr old and 3 1/2 yr old is not fun when there are 4 other people in front of you. mind you i don't have to do this often but on the few occasions drive-thru would be nice! i also miss being able to seek out something i want that is not in stock at my local store with 3-4 others within reasonable driving distance! i think there is only one kmart and big w in the whole nt!! |

We have a 10k Washer/Dryer Combo. I love it! Throw in a load, set it and forget it and around 2 1/2 to 3 hours later you pull out your laundry all clean, dry and ready to fold. Now if it could just fold and put it away! heehee. I know you may think the time it takes would run up our electric bill. We are actually saving money since we got it. It doesn't use any hot water because it has a built in water heater and heats the cold water. It uses very little water also. It also doesn't blow any fluff all over the house as it doesn't vent either. Seriously its the best 2k we ever spent. |

Yeah, I will not miss drive thru banking, mostly because thats my profession now, ha ha. But when I told people in Oz that I worked at a bank at the drive thru window they looked at me like i might be crazy. |

And when my husband was in the US - the first thing he noticed was there were no drive thru bottle shops - which still makes no sense to me that you would make purchasing alcohol convenient but not the bank or pharmacy! LOL I am jealous of Janda's washer/dryer! it sounds soooo awesome! |
