Hell I just miss fountain drinks full stop - I remember seeing my kids' faces when they ordered a "large" drink at McDonalds... it was pretty funny. It reminded me of seeing my exchange student from Japan's face when she ordered a large drink from McDonalds - she had to take a picture of it and she couldn't stop laughing.

I mostly miss fountain soda when we're travelling - the cost of drinks at service stations is CRAZY.

I've missed a lot of things, thankfully I've recently returned from the US with booty. I missed Fritos, Hidden Valley ranch dressing, unscented solid deordorant, heel protector plates, black beans (finaly stocked up in Canberra), instant cocoa and well-made cotton chinos and polo shirts (women's). Some things are available here, but just ridiculously expensive. Check out these prices on books: Aus price: $170 US, $53 Aus: $143 US $63. I also miss some things that are not so trivial.

Yes the prices af sodas are ridiculous, as are many things in Aus. I've been opting out of this outrageously priced economy as much as possible. My Australian husband is shocked also. We pack our own ice, drinks, and snacks for road trips.

I miss big jars of applesauce that are affordable and not sold in the baby food section for a fortune. I find the lemon solo soda here divine as I wasn't a fan of anything at home but coke for a headache.

I miss being able to shop after 5:30 daily, Saturday afternoons, and Sundays at anyplace other than Woolworths, Coles, or Kmart. At first, I thought that it was just stupid that the shops closed when everyone gets off work. Then I realized that there are a lot of people here who don't have to work M-F, 9-5, if they do, they just take off work to go shopping and do errands. The denizens have been trained, but not me. I'm doing most of my shopping for non-consumable, non-electrical items in the US. I either shop there, or order it online, have it sent to my mother, and pick it up when I go see my family. Screw this economy. Everything is way too expensive, and they expect us to go out of our way to shop when it suits them.

I have not seen a large jar of applesauce yet, but I did find a six pack of individual servings in the baby section for 50 cents each. OK, so compared to other expenses, it isn't shocking, but my kids LOVE applesauce and I use it to make all kinds of healthy snacks for them. Buying a six pack of baby food and wasting all that plastic and money is annoying, so we've moved on :$ I don't have enough spare time to shred apples or make my own applesauce.

Oh, and I almost forgot. My husband arrived home this morning and FORGOT THE HOT TAMALES. WHAT??? And the pumpkin. I did find a pumpkin pie at Costco and ate half before he ever made it home, so I can deal with that one, but no hot tamales?? So sad.

That's Ok, its Sunday here, and they are closed anyhow. I think I have a special place in my stomach for chick-fil-a, and my thighs, and my hips...

I looked up "applesauce" on Coles.com.au and it actually listed 2 products... this one (375ml for $2.54) and a Coles brand (350ml for $1.88). Have you seen those?
I know they're not "BIG" like the ones in the States, but probably better value than the baby food variety!

Now that I think about it, I've bought the SPC one before... and it wasn't in the baby food section. It also wasn't in the canned fruit section. Maybe try condiments? :headscratch: Look around... it's out there!

It really might be condiments, since it's usually eaten here with pork roast.
